Why I Started Trade Like Nick

I created Trade Like Nick because I believe anyone can learn to trade, without wasting years or tens of thousands of dollars. For too long, I watched traders get sold hype instead of strategy. I wanted to offer something real. Something that works.

At Trade Like Nick, I teach a 5-step system that helps you stop gambling and start trading with purpose. I call it the 5P Method: Price patterns, Probabilities, Position sizing, Proper mechanics, and Psychology. It’s the same process I use in my own trading every day.

My goal is simple: to help you trade like a pro, with a clear plan and a calm mindset, so you can build real income and take control of your financial future.

The Beginning: Hope

I’ve been trading since I was 12 years old—not stocks, but baseball cards. I’d buy players I thought were undervalued and flip them for profit when their value rose, tracking prices in Beckett Monthly like a kid watching a live ticker. It was my first taste of market speculation, and I was hooked. Movies like Wall Street, Boiler Room, and The Pursuit of Happyness lit a fire in me to figure out the stock market.

The Struggle: Reality

But college didn’t teach trading, so in 1998, I landed an internship at Dean Witter—one of the biggest brokerages on the West Coast. That’s where I realized most “brokers” weren’t traders at all—they were salespeople pitching stocks like poker hands, hoping something would stick. Desperate to really learn the game, I found a late-night infomercial for a trading academy. The tuition was $10,000, so I bet on myself—just like at the blackjack table—and went all in. Unfortunately, I was sold the dream, and not the reality, and continued to struggle.
A few years later, I worked as a trading coach, knowing what to do, but not able to do it. Then came my jackpot moment: the trading academy was acquired by Thinkorswim, and that’s where I met Tom Sosnoff and a crew of ex-floor traders from the Chicago Board of Options Exchange. They taught me the truth: stop playing the market like a gambler, and start operating like the casino.

The Turning Point: Trading Transformation

That’s when everything changed. Tom and his team showed me how professionals trade using math, probabilities, and risk-defined strategies—specifically by selling options, not buying them blindly. As a former high school math teacher, this approach made perfect sense. I was finally applying probability and statistics in real time—not in theory, but in the markets, where every trade was a calculated bet with the odds in my favor. I wasn’t chasing jackpots anymore—I was the house. That mindset became the foundation of what I teach today through TradeLikeNick.
